A few of the important ones...

Assume Nothing - Just because a 4-year old can use it, doesn't mean your brother or mother can. Test/confirm/verify.

KISS prinicipal (Keep It Simple Stupid) - Sometimes you can do more with nothing than you can with too much.

Design for the platform. One size does not fit all. Optimize for each platform without being too different an experience from one to the next.

Balance without Symmetry - Keep the users subconsious happy with an underlying aesthetic that is never drab or boring.

Off the page - Be conscious about what is in focus and where things could lead to.

Provide the best solution - Always leave the user better off than before.
